Support does not end when production does
Manufacturers stop supporting equipment long before aircraft stop needing it. Once a unit is out of production and off the repair lists, an operator is usually told the only option is a full system replacement — which for one failed component is a disproportionate answer.
This is the gap we work in. Repairing an obsolete unit keeps a serviceable aircraft serviceable, and buys time to plan an upgrade properly instead of under pressure.

- I have been told my unit is unsupportable. Is that final?
- Often not. Unsupportable usually means the manufacturer has stopped supporting it, which is a commercial decision rather than a technical verdict on the hardware. It is worth a second opinion before you accept a full system replacement for one failed component.
- What if the repair genuinely cannot be substantiated?
- You will hear that early rather than after an invoice for investigation, along with help planning the alternative. Some failures cannot be cleared by any test, and saying so promptly is part of the job.
- Does keeping old equipment alive just delay the inevitable?
- It buys you the ability to schedule an upgrade instead of reacting to a failure, which is usually a much cheaper way to do it. Delaying a planned decision is a problem; converting an unplanned one into a planned one is not.
